I Am Abandoned

Well not really but mum and dad had to go away for a few days as they suffered something they call a 'bereavement'. Big word for me, not sure what it means but they were very sad.

Lots of notes were written, notices put up and then we were left and strange people came and looked after us.

While it was fine (if I am honest and I am usually an honest donkey), it was so good to see them back home again. I missed Dad scratching my neck, just behind my ears, it makes my bottom lip go all floppy and he gets it just right every time.

Anyway we are all back to normal again - apart from this awful awful weather.....

2009 A Happy New Year

I would like to wish everyone, who has supported me in my efforts to save donkeys like me, a happy new year. Thanks to your kind donations - and of course coming to see me at my Open Day - a steady trickle of lucky donkeys have been given the star spangled saved banner and trotted up the ramp of the good lorry which brings them to safety.

Sadly, an awful lot of perfectly decent, law abiding and friendly donkeys are shoved and pushed and beaten to go on the bad lorry that takes them to their deaths. I am very worried, what with these horrible words Credit Crunch, that so many more are going to go on those horrible journeys of despair.

BUT one very lucky donkey, Ebony, is as I write this just resting his little hooves having arrived in the UK yesterday - this is the one that Aimee donkey more or less saved - her £515 fund raising effort in December paid for him to be put on the good white lorry and he is now resting in Sussex before starting his new life as an active go faster donkey - he is going to quaranteed, have his bits off and then be trained to do all sorts of things, as he is only 2 years old and needs to be kept busy. In time you may see him at a donkey show near you - make sure you tell him Vodka sends her love.

I am sorry I won't get to see him myself and say hello but I made sure that my mum vetted his home very very carefully and he will be a much loved and welcome donkey.

Sadly, he had to leave all his friends behind - another six sad little donkeys going for the chop.

I have to keep pinching myself that I was here to see in 2009, I should be long gone, just maybe a bit of indigestion for someone who had eaten me - personally I would hope I gave them the runs very badly but that's just my own personal slant on the idea of me being pre-packed. Hospitalisation at the very least. It is dreadful just to think of a Vodka burger, or Vodka escalope.....Personally I don't think I would have been worth eating, given how thin I was when I arrived here but mum says she thinks they would have stuffed lots of food into me in the weeks before I went to Italy so that there would be more kilos of me.

Oh enough of those horrible bad dreams, I had just about forgotten all those nasty things and was just concentrating on being a hooligan donkey.

So once again can I say how much I, Vodka, and my friends, appreciate all the people who have sent money to help us save little long ears - we hope that we can do a lot more this year and that you will read the labelling carefully when you travel abroad, you don't want to eat my little sister, do you?
